Hello, I'm Rachel.

I am 25 and I live in NYC, but I grew up chasing tumbleweeds and hornytoads in New Mexico. I write things for a living, for now. I like the arts, photographs, old movies, the web, and the city, and tend to wonder how each influences the other. I thought this might be a good place to collect a few of the million images, sounds and ideas I get distracted by every day--sentimental though they may be. Welcome to my corner.

And if you just want to say hi, please do. I write back.

There is a new magazine coming to New York on May 15—straight outta Bklyn comes a journal of art and fashion called Dossier Journal, and I am actually excited about it. It is a joint venture between photographer Skye Parrott (one of those global cool girls who worked for Nan Goldin and Self Service in Paris and shoots for Teen Vogue, Lula, Dazed and Confused, Nylon, etc.) and childhood friend and writer Katherine Krause. The first issue has some knockout photography, including an unpublished David Armstrong series and a fashion pictorial styled by Zac Posen himself. Mario Batali, Nan Goldin, James Welling, Mark Ronson, and Dan Pope are also contributors.
In a world where magazines are becoming as endangered as baby seals, I always love to see people launching something new, committed to the idea that bound paper is still one of the best ways to showcase a braintrust of creative ideas (it is, I swear!). The secret is small print runs and making every issue exceptional, so that the object becomes the end in itself rather than just a glossy way to disseminate information. Seems like Dossier has that covered. Look for it.

PS—A friend of mine has the brilliant idea to launch a photography/fiction driven journal for men who are into beards, archery, tweed, falconry, bespoke suits, thick-cut bacon, ginger beer and saloon pianos. I think it could be great.
